Teaching news
Jul. 23rd, 2008 06:07 pmThis morning I woke up and immediately got a nose bleed cos I was so stressed. But things are less stressful now!
Zomg.
Koonung Secondary College is so different to MGC. IN A GOOD WAY. Our school group coordinator is actually competent. And organised. She's also really nice. I think I just <3 her cos I'm so relieved that she seems to know what she's doing, and is actually enthusiastic about it, unlike our last one.
Anyway.
Every morning we're to have a 15 minute briefing to go over what we're doing that day. (Which is awesome because I'm an organisation freak like that. Also, I hate wandering about wondering what to do - which is what I did a great deal of at MGC initially.) We also have our very own room, with tables and chairs. At MGC we had no space of our own, so if we had nothing to do, we'd just float aimlessly and awkwardly around. The staff that we've met have all been really warm and friendly. And because there are so many of us student teachers (19 compared to 6 at my last round), the whole school is aware of us and accepts us as a group instead of ignoring us or seeing us as being this random bunch of random people from nowhere.
So in short, I'm really happy with this placement. I was totally dreading being placed in a horrible school that was 2 hours away and had kids that would eat me for breakfast, or mug me on the way home (one of my friends from last semester actually got a placement like that :O). But Koonung is only a 30 minute drive away, and the school is really welcoming and has awesome people (from what I've seen today). YAY.
I also asked our teaching fellow about the Highvale job and whether I should bother applying even though I don't have ESL as one of my methods. She said that anyone who had the full qualifications would get it over me, but that I should try anyway just in case nobody qualified applies for it. So I'm slightly less stressed about that too, since I know what to expect now.
I think that's all for now!
