A semantic riddle, and a meme

Q. What does a semanticist call an elevator operator?
A. A member of the vertical transportation corps.
...unless said semanticist is a subscriber to the Natural Semantic Metalanguage theory, 'cos then it would be something like:
A. Someone who spends a lot of time in a place that goes up and down and this place that goes up and down is a smaller world than the world in which it goes up and down in, and the someone is happy that it goes up and down, because their place in the world is to be the person who is in the place that goes up and down, and the place that goes up and down takes other people up and down, and the other people feel good about that because this is what they want.
-.-
To save me from linguistic-induced insanity, here's a meme I found in my LJ archives from ages ago:
15 Years Ago, I:
1. was 5 years old
2. had no friends
3. had just moved to Australia from Shanghai
4. didn't speak any English except for maybe "hi" and "toilet"
5. missed my life in China so much that I pretended the red and gold of the McDonald's flag was actually the Chinese flag
10 Years Ago, I:
1. was 10
2. started watching Xena
3. was completely obsessed with Xena but had no idea yet of how it would change my life
4. had a crush on a girl at school called Lisa Favretto
5. was given my first ever computer
5 Years Ago, I:
1. was 15
2. was in love
3. lost my virginity
4. discovered the star trek fandom
5. tried to commit suicide (unrelated to #4 :P)
3 Years Ago, I:
1. was 17
2. graduated from high school
3. decided on my current career path
4. was dating
ceilyn_rm and
azotame and happy with my life again
5. was seen by all as a cocky, confident casanova with many charms
1 Year Ago, I:
1. was 19
2. was lonely and a little lost
3. enjoyed 2nd year uni somewhat more than 1st year, due to 3 lovely subjects: Phonetics, Making China Modern, and Old English A
4. signed my life away to WoW
5. joined a cult, also known as the <Order of Akasha> and met a bunch of freaks :D
P.S. I am totally in love with Missy Higgins. I love this song. It's so uplifting. :-)
