This is what I got up to today:

I drew it on my Nintendo DS using a program called "Colors!", which is a nifty little program, kind of like a (very simple) Photoshop for the DS. The advantage is that you get to use the stylus and it's touch sensitive. (By the way, you can also download it for the iPhone and iPod Touch.)
The cool thing about this program is that it also records the strokes you use and you can play it back to see the entire drawing process in fast forward. You can export it into an .avi file too, and play it on your computer. So then I used Ulead VideoStudio 11 to give it a soundtrack and uploaded it to YouTube. You can watch it here:
In other news. Today was Chinese New Year Eve so Chin's parents invited us all to their place for dinner. Chin is my estranged former childhood best friend who I no longer have anything in common with and who I find extremely awkward to talk to these days. You know, the childhood best friend who your parents are forever comparing you to because they're smarter and more successful and taller than you. Mum no longer compares our successes because Chin has moved out with her Australian boyfriend which is like... no. But as expected, Mum made me wear high heels today. -.-
I haven't seen Chin for ages. The last time they had dinner at our place, Chin didn't come, much to her parents' embarrassment. And the last time we had dinner at their place, Chin was off with her boyfriend somewhere and made only a very brief appearance. And the time before that was her 21st birthday party in which I spent the entire time feeling uncomfortable and horribly out of place because I didn't know anybody except Chin and she kind of disappeared and left me by myself without introducing me to anyone. And all her friends were loud and Australian and drunk. *sigh* So I really wasn't looking forward to going to their place tonight, but my parents and her parents are kind of determined that we remain friends so of course I had to go, and Chin had to be there. But she wasn't, so I ended up spending most of the time watching the Australian Open on their massive flatscreen TV, which was fine by me.
After dinner, I played table tennis with Gary, another one of Chin's parent's friend's kids, but with tennis rules. We ended up winning 2 sets each and then it got too dark to play. Eventually Chin arrived with her boyfriend Jordy and there was some drama because her parents yelled at her for being so late (and making them lose face, since they'd promised she'd be there) and I think Chin stormed upstairs right past my awkward "Hey" so I went back to watching the tennis. Um, awkward much? >.< Anyway, after a bit she came back down and went straight to the table to eat dinner without acknowledging anyone. I didn't know what to do so I stayed in the living room watching the tennis until her parents ushered me and Gary to the table where I made some small talk with them for a while. Her boyfriend was actually pretty nice. I've met him before but he was in a big group with his "mates" and drunk at the time, so. I felt vaguely sorry for him tonight because ALL twenty or so of the Chinese relatives/guests were staring at him. And Chin's dad kept clapping him on the shoulder. Lol. Anyway. We ended up talking for a good while so it didn't end up being a complete disaster.
And that ends tonight's episode of awkward Chinese family gatherings.

Date: 2009-01-27 01:12 pm (UTC)Oh awkward Chinese dinners. Life just wouldn't be the same without them.
Happy CNY ~
Date: 2009-01-25 08:34 pm (UTC)And oh dear, sounds like you had a really fun Chinese New Year dinner... and judging from the twenty or so Chinese relatives/guests there, I'm sure Chin's boyfriend had a wonderful time as well, haha.
*hugs* :)

I felt a strange moment of empathy with Chin's boyfriend because I figure that's exactly what my future girlfriend will experience, but 10 times worse.
