Wow.  I just watched the most epic tennis match ever.  Hell, it wasn't even just epic.  It was legendary

Nadal versus Verdasco.  Five hours and fourteen minutes of pure awesomeness.

Didn't get to sleep until early this morning because it was so hot, so I've been feeling pretty lethargic all day.  Woke up at 12:48pm today from the feeling of sweat trickling down my stomach.  This afternoon our power went out for about fifteen minutes and we were like "oh crap".  But it came back.  Phew.  I feel so sorry for all those houses out there that haven't had power for days.

These kinds of days aren't good for anything except being flopped on the couch watching TV.  I think I've watched more TV in the last week than I have the entire previous year.  I've also been reading this historical/fantasy book that I randomly picked up at the library.  The King's Peace.  It has Vikings in it, which makes me happy, even if they keep portraying the Vikings as raping, pillaging barbarians.  Poor Vikings - they can never get a break can they?  Pfft.

Too. Hot.

Today was another 43°C degree day without air con. On days like this it's far too hot to stay in my own room (which faces the west and gets the brunt of the afternoon sun), and anyway, being on the computer isn't an option because it's like a heater. I spent most of the day watching TV in the living room with Rianna, and sweating. Dad came home in the early afternoon all grumpy from the heat and got even more intolerable without the air con. He yelled at me and Rianna for having our stuff in the living room, which he said was his space. Rianna argued back that the living room was for everyone. I mostly ignored him, as I tend to do when he's being ridiculous, but internally fumed at his utter failure in understanding what a family should be. But whatever.

Rianna goes back to school tomorrow, which means it'll just be me and the relatives in the house during the day.  I've discovered that my aunt is really talkative.  She keeps talking to me in Shanghainese, which can get awkward when I lose track of whatever she's talking about (or fail to pick up the track in the first place) and I end up nodding and smiling and making "uh huh" noises for the next ten minutes.  Such as today.  I /think/ we were talking about the air conditioner breaking, and she suddenly started talking about "dou su", which I heard as "red bean paste", but which was clearly a homophone, given the context.  I asked "What's dou su?", but it wasn't like she could explain in English, and she ended up talking about it for the next ten minutes, right through the Dementieva/Williams match point.

Fail.

Ingibjörg

Our air con broke. Seriously, could it have picked a worse time? *dies of heat*

I am also currently re-tagging every single entry starting from 2003, because I'm insane. It's taken me all day and I'm only up to 2006.

Also, I was sad to see Gilles Simon go, but I guess I'm glad for Nadal. Hopefully he'll play Federer in the finals and it will be epic.

But none of this is important.

This is what is important:

ICELAND IS ABOUT TO GET ITS FIRST LESBIAN PRIME MINISTER, AND HER NAME IS INGIBJÖRG1.

She will be Iceland's first female prime minister and the world's first openly gay world leader. Yet another reason why Iceland is the coolest country in the world (no pun intended).

______

1Too bad her name is actually Johanna Sigurdardottir and not Ingibjörg, because an Icelandic lesbian prime minister called Ingibjörg would just be too awesome for words. But I will call her Ingibjörg anyway.

Lol, Federer just headbutted the ball over the net.

Poor Del Potro.

Commentators:

"He's being manhandled... Federer is just abusing him on the scoreline."

"He's just put his arms down and he's getting punched repeatedly by Federer."

"I can't ever remember seeing a blowout like this in a quarter final, Todd."

"This is just astonishing."

"This has been an embarassment, the last two sets."

Score: 6-3, 6-0, 6-0

Now this is what I call being pwned.

OMG I AM SO ANGRY.

GODDAMN CHANNEL 7 IS NOT SHOWING AMELIE'S MATCH. INSTEAD THEY HAVE BEEN SHOWING THE MEN'S MATCH. ALL MORNING. AND NOW THAT IT'S FINALLY OVER, THEY ARE SHOWING REPLAYS.

ARGH.

Cut for lots of screaming while live-blogging )

Damnit! I was going to buy tickets to Amelie Mauresmo's third round match against Victoria Azarenka at Rod Laver Arena tomorrow but they're sold out.

:(

:( :( :(

I've been "watching" her matches online, using the live score update thingy since it hasn't been broadcast on TV, but it's obviously not the same as actually being able to you know, see the players and the ball and stuff. Even then watching her matches has been stressful. She's so goddamn unpredictable. I hope they show the Rod Laver match on TV tomorrow. *will be highly annoyed if they show some nameless Australian instead*

Anyway, her opponent: Victoria Azarenka, seeded 13th in women's singles. Only 19 years old. Has only ever reached Round 3 in the Australian Open. Amelie, with more than 10 years experience and an Australian Open under her belt should be able to wipe the floor with her, right? ...Right?

Then again, Amelie lost to Casey Dellacqua in like Round 2 last year, and she was ranked 178th or something. Gah.

*worries*

Anyway, here's a picture of Amelie looking very buff:

DAMNIT

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*MASSIVE TWITCH*

Amelie Mauresmo lost!   >.<

But I'm glad it was Casey Dellacqua who won against her.  She seems like a nice girl, and that comment about playing her Playstation before the match totally won me over.  :)

BUT ARRRRRRGHHHHHHH.  *bangs head against desk*

:(

Today I went to get my eyes tested and spent almost $600 on a new pair of glasses.  I got all the frills mods -  polycarbonate lenses so that they're lighter/thinner/shatter-resistant, anti-reflective coating, and they're transition so the sun won't be an issue when I'm driving.  I got a pretty sexy frame too.  :-D  But it was more expensive than I had expected, so I think I'll wait a bit before getting that Wii.  Anyway, I'll post some pictures when they're ready.

Apart from spending too much on optical upgrades, I haven't been doing much lately.  I haven't even been playing WoW.  I know, shock horror, right? ;-)  A lot of my time during the day has been spent watching the Australian Open.  Tomorrow night they're /finally/ going to show one of Amelie Mauresmo's matches because she's going to be playing against an Australian (Casey Dellacqua).  It'll probably also be a very stressful match to witness (can't say 'watch' because I haven't technically /seen/ her play because they haven't broadcast any of her other matches *grinds teeth*)... because Casey has been doing really well.  In round two she pwned some woman who's ranked 12th (and Amelie is only 18th at the moment) in the world.  And she'll be on home turf.  And of course the crowd will be cheering for her and making Amelie stressed.  And Amelie is just so stressful to watch because she's so unpredictable.  Unlike some players.  Some players are just so predictable, ya know?  Like Federer.  Pfft, /so/ predictable.  :-)

Currently Marat Safin is banging his racket against his own head in frustration.  Oops, he just broke it.  He makes me lol.

Dear god.  Watching Amelie Mauresmo play tennis is the MOST STRESSFUL THING IN THE WORLD.

-.-

And I'm not even watching it on TV.  I'm watching the live scores update.   Yes, I know.  So sad.  >.<

[Edit: She won! 6-7 6-0 6-0 lolz]
