McKinley

Oh man.

I'm in trouble.  My date with McKinley went super well. Amazingly well.  And I know I'm going to crush on her madly starting from, well, I think I was already kind of emotionally invested even from her first message, but now I'm in that stage where I get a stupid dreamy smile on my face when I remember something she said, and I'm thinking about her way too much for someone who's just had a first date.  This is my fatal flaw.  I know this.  I get over-invested in people. And ideas of people.  But I still can't stop it from happening.

But seriously guys.  This girl is awesome.  It was so easy to talk to her.  She was articulate and funny and we had heaps of random things in common.  Like at one point we were talking about something to do with philosophy and I said, rather flippantly, "you are who you pretend to be" (which is a Xena quote) and she was like OMG Kurt Vonnegut and I was like "oh, I got it from Xena" and then she sat back and laughed and said that was her favourite interaction in the whole date. And I was like "wait, you know Xena?" and it turns out she loved Xena and it used to be the thing that her mum used to bribe her to do homework.  And then she promptly wrote down the episode name and the season (Blind Faith, Season 2) in her notebook.  Because she loves notebooks.  Oh, and she writes fantasy short stories.  And knows what I'm talking about when I mention random games, and asks me things like "have you ever played Fallout 3?"  We have made informal plans to watch Xena together (she hasn't seen past Season 4) and I've also said that she needs to teach me how to solve a cryptic crossword because I have no idea how to even start those things.

There are a whole bunch of THINGS that are in the way however.  Like the fact that she's vegan, and I've said on my profile that I probably wouldn't date a vegetarian, and how I live at home still, and she's said in her questions somewhere that she wouldn't date someone who still lived with their parents. There are other things too, which I won't mention here but which are Fairly Significant as well - probably more so than the whole vegan/parents thing.  But I'm not going to let my brain ruin this too much before it even gets started.

I guess, over time, I've become okay with the idea of just dating someone for a while.  It doesn't have to be the whole U-Haul Get-Married-Have-Kids thing right away.  I would like to get to know her, and grow a little with her, and maybe come to care for her for a while before life interrupts.

But anyway, this post is getting too somber for something which is, essentially, a post about a really really amazing day.  I had a date with a beautiful, intelligent girl, and I know we both enjoyed it, we both like each other a lot (this has been confirmed, verbally), and we have plans to meet up again.  At the very least, I've made a friend.  And that's something to celebrate.

Continuing my streak of uber productivity, today I:

1. Got a haircut
2. Finally wrote a letter, put it in a kangaroo, and mailed it to Gro.
3. Beat [livejournal.com profile] chewy3479 at Words With Friends (again) despite his 111 point SQUIRTER

And it's only 4pm.

This is the kangaroo I sent to Gro:

It wasn't the original kangaroo that I carried during my Eurotrip because I decided it wasn't good enough for Gro.  And besides, I lost the joey that it came with somewhere in Berlin. So this one is a larger, fluffier, more expensive one from Australian Geographic.

I wonder if she'll ever write back...

Anyway, back to reality. In the continuing saga of my online adventures with Reasonablyhotasian girl, she has given me her Facebook nickname, but I can't find her. What's wrong with my stalking skills?  I fear they have rusted beyond repair.  :-/

I met a rather cute Chinese girl today.

*pauses so that the profoundness of that sentence sinks in for you all*

Yes. I actually find a Chinese girl cute. Normally I'm all "eh" around Asian girls cos they aren't my type at all, and they tend to remind me of relatives. This one wasn't OMG-she's-soooooooooo-hot!!!-worthy, but she was nice... and I liked her enough to attempt to talk to her for several hours. Her name is Freda, and she works for my parents at the cafe. My dad invited her over to dinner today - partly so that I could practise my Chinese with her. She's in year 12, and she's been in Australia for a year. I think her parents are in the Chinese military or something. Anyway, they have enough money to send their daughter over to Australia to study. She can't speak English very well yet, so I have to speak Mandarin with her. Usually speaking Mandarin with people who can't speak English just annoys and frustrates me... but it was pretty fun today. I wouldn't mind seeing her again. :-D

In uni news:
The Russian Revolution: is getting slightly more interesting, and isn't as scary. Also, the lecturer is stuttering less. Yay. He also gives out very helpful sheets, so that gets him points.
History of Sexualities: was kind of boring last week, but that was cos we were doing lots of stuff on Foucault. Hopefully we'll move on soon. Also very disappointing is the fact there are no hot gay girls (other than me, that is *g*) in my tutorial. You'd think that there would be a couple, given that this subject is pretty much on the history of queer movements and stuff... but no. Two of the guys /might/ be gay. There's one rather cute girl who I'm scheduled to work with in week 4 on the topic of "female desires" (yay!) but she's straight (she said so in the first tutorial). Oh well.
Phonetics: is pretty fun. The tutor says that by the end of it we'll be able to pretend to be fluent speakers of almost every language because we'll have learnt to do all the different sounds that human speech is capable of producing. But I can't for the life of me make a French uvular nasal fricative.
Old English Prose: is still damn awesome, even though I'm really hating the verb system at the moment. BUT! I now know the difference between "Thou seemst a great knight" and "Thou seemeth a great knight". (Both of which aren't Old English sentences - they're Middle English - but the grammatical rules still apply.) Hee!
Karate:is really good. I can now do push ups without waking up the next day with aching arms and pecs. I think that's improvement. :-D Can't wait for my first grading!

On Friday, I'm going to meet [livejournal.com profile] penstarr and [livejournal.com profile] warrior_cat for the first time. Eeee! Very excited. :-D

And finally, I have this meme which I did about a week ago but forgot to post. So here it is )
