So, the relatives aren't too bad. The aunt that's here at the moment is my dad's eldest sister. I'd met her once or twice before in China. She doesn't speak English at all so I've had to stretch my Shanghainese to communicate. From what I've seen, my dad's siblings are fairly intelligent, rational, considerate people... and completely unlike him. I think he's the defective one. Srsly.

I went for a really long walk today after dinner. Walking always makes me emo, unfortunately, because it's boring and repetitive and the trail is too full of memories, and my mind is far to free to wander. So I came home in a bit of a funky mood. Playing WoW didn't help much. Actually, it helped a little until mum came in and made another comment about how I should do a course in Chinese over the summer. She does this every single holidays, and then we have a fight about it. I wouldn't get so defensive about it if it wasn't a part of the continual expression of disappointment over my career choices. I honestly thought she'd gotten over it. But no.

I'm up to Season 6, episode 24 of Voyager. What will I do when I run out? I suppose there's always TNG... or maybe Battlestar Galactica. But there's nothing like Voyager when it comes to comfort TV.

Wow. I just listened to this song and burst into tears.

I think I'm either very hormonal or this song is really... tear-inducing.

When I do assignments, I like to listen to one or two songs on repeat instead of having my music player on shuffle because variation in songs distract me. I amuse myself by choosing music related to whatever assignment I happen to be doing.

In first year, when I was doing my Russian Revolution research assignment, I listened to the Soviet National Anthem on repeat for 18 hours (it still has the highest play-count out of all my songs, and it's not because I'm a communist :p). Last week when I was stuck on Beowulf, I listened to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack (Tolkein wrote a book about Beowulf) and then "The Ring" from the season six Xena soundtrack. Today, I am doing my Semantics assignment, which happens to be about the preposition "under". So I'm listening to a bunch of songs with "under" in the song title.

Ahahahahaha. I'm listening to some really bad Chinese pop in an attempt to absorb the language. Somehow. Anyway, some of the songs are surprisingly catchy (yes, I admit, I do sometimes have a weak spot for bad pop songs. In whatever language). However, whenever she starts singing in English... it just... fails. Utterly. I kept hearing this line, "I really want to be about to fly" and the harder I listened the more I started to hear something even more ridiculous: "I really want to be a butt or fly". I didn't realise at all that what she was actually singing was "I really want to be a butterfly" until I saw that the title of the song was "Two Butterflies". And even then it took me a few seconds. *shakes head in amusement*
